Liner replacement FAQ

What should I do with the pool’s water while the liner is being replaced? Your pool should be drained by your liner installation contractor. Follow your city’s rules (you may not be allowed to pump it into the street, for example) and be careful not to flood your neighbors’ yards.

How can I ensure that the liner fits my pool? Your pool professional should measure the pool beforehand to ensure a good fit. Realize that the liner will be stretched (and is meant to be stretched) to create a smooth and taut finish, but if it is stretched too much, the strain and stress will cause damage.

Can I install a new pool liner on my own? Pool liners are difficult to install, and if they aren’t installed properly, they simply won’t last. For this reason, it is highly recommended that you hire an experienced, talented pro to take care of the job. The majority of liner manufactures will not warranty a liner that is not installed by a professional.

How long does it take to install a new liner? Most pool liners can be replaced in 1-4 days once the new liner is delivered, assuming the weather is accommodating. Although you aren’t usually required to stay at home while the liner is installed, we recommend that you do so that you can ask the pool pros any questions you might havef

After your pool has been emptied, the old liner will be cut into strips and removed from the pool. Then, the pool and its features (skimmer box, drain, stairs, etc.) are inspected for damage. The pool is thoroughly cleaned after that, with extra care being paid to the liner track. Then, when the pool is primed and ready, the liner is set into place and a vacuum is used to remove wrinkles. Elements that had been removed (like face-plates and gaskets) are either added back in or replaced. Finally, the pool is refilled and the filter is restarted.
